Making a Statement

Statement costume jewellery is a favourite of mine for making my budget and high end clobber look better. I always buy one piece of costume jewellery every season to give that nod to the trends and micro trends. This season is no exception and of course I'm selecting something from my Stella and Dot range.

I haven't decided yet which necklace it will be since I'm not a natural wearer of statement necklaces in the way the chief (and best) statement necklace wearer Mary Portas is. I want to be bold and go with the Indira necklace

It is a necklace I would wear with a stripy top, a plain top under a white shirt or with a dress. I want my statement piece to be versatile and love it enough to wear loads. I'm more likely to play it safe with this Bianca Tassel necklace

What about you are you bold or bashful when it comes to choosing a statement piece?

Summer necklaces on my mind

When I got my February edition of UK Vogue I was particularly taken with the runway report supplement's section on 'neckpieces'. I allowed myself a momentary wish list and then attempted to select the winning piece. That didn't happen I'm still torn between the Bottega Venetta,

the Lanvin,

or Veronique Leroy full on necklaces. (All images style.com)

Of course this is pure fantasy wish list as none are on a shopping list proper. I think if I really had to make a choice I'd bag the Leroy. Will you be blinging it up with a beast adorning your décolleté or passing on such detail?

Fab Fabric of Fun

Of late the postman had been very late with the deliveries, sometimes not until 5pm! However we seem to have a new whipper snapper of a postie, I saw him jump over a hedge saving a dull walk and he's wearing big trendy closed backed headphones. Anyway he was, unbeknownst to him the deliverer of a lovely parcel from The Small Fabric of My Life. When I entered into the Capsule Wardrobe challenge, I had no idea there was a prize it was such a great challenge I just wanted to do it. To win was brilliant and so it was very exciting to be sent a prize.

I received a gorgeous silk scarf which I tied round my bag as it added zing. It will be the perfect spring/summer scarf. I took a photo of it on the bag whilst on the train into Waterloo.

I had to pop into the London College of Fashion and as I had no childcare the petit garcon was with me. He is the perfect young boy around town and insisted upon wearing a shirt and his best coat! He has a little life ruck sack on his back with a safety strap firmly attached to my hand.

We met up later with Mr MDS for supper and I made him take a photo of the second item in my parcel a great necklace! Thank you Jane for such a gorgeous and unexpected present.

Three necklaces I need

Technically I need to write my dissertation and think about my career... However, the beauty of being bed ridden (sorry that should be past tense as I'm now up and about) is the time one has to explore the internet. I've had so little time to do this in so many years, it was nearly a joy. I actually thought I'd like an office job again, especially after I discovered 4OD. I watched all the new series of Ugly Betty that I've missed due to never having time to watch tv. Then I got to do window shopping. Usually I've only got a moment to have a quick check of on-line sites, new arrivals, follow up press information and even that is way down in second place to my MA research.

In my moments of wakefulness I got to delve deeply into the many offerings of clothes, bags and accessories. I finally decided that I had to choose three necklaces to add to my potential new wardrobe. Truly I need these necklaces.

My first pick is a Wendy Brandes creation called the Little Woolf Necklace I need this as it will be my writing inspirational aide for my MA dissertation. It will give me the gravitas of Virginia!
The second necklace I need is a gold Maple Leaf by Emilie Hagen I've always loved maple leaves from my days in school at TL Kennedy, Missassagua, Canada. I went there on some progressive experimental school exchange from my comprehensive state school in the UK. I think the experiment was a failure as I have a vague recollection of doing some presentation evening for the Canadian Embassy and most of us who went not doing very well in our GCSE exams. The two schools continued to do a 2 week cultural exchange but the education element was dropped. Hence my nostalgic love of the maple leaf. Finally, a gal always needs a bit of bling and this is the one for me Ora by Dannijo.

Sigh now all I need is a lottery win for number 3, although I think I'll tick number one and two off my list very soon!
