Make Do Magic

Let's face it despite my upbeat views on ignoring the austerity fever pitch currently gripping the UK, Mrs MDS is nothing but savvy when it comes to budgeting but maintaining standards.

Thank goodness for a good nose and palette. How I remember the days when I thought nothing of buying a bottle or two of Verve Cliquot, fondly. Yet that party ended a while ago. Thanks to Victoria Moore of The Guardian Weekend I've survived and kept up appearances with an M&S or Sainsbury own champagne when required.

But now taste and purse is in perfect harmony thanks to the discovery of a really good Prosecco Rose in Waitrose. It is pink, bubbly and comes in a lovely bottle at £7.99. What's not to love...

  1. Dear Kate, we have a Waitrose and a M&S next door to each other. I occasionally buy M&S's Oudinot Rose Champagne which is often on special offer for £16.99. This looks like a much better buy. No one can ever tell the difference between Prosecco and Champagne as they're made the same way anyway. Happy Sunday xx

  3. This prosecco is always sold out in my waitrose - it is mighty fine but a great alternative is Tesco's demi- sec cava which is even cheaper! I have already embraced buying cheap plonk bubbles as my Billcart-salmon habit was making a huge dent in my wallet. xxx

  4. Lidl do a lovely normal Prosecco that's surprisingly cheap. Mind you, I wouldn't know a good wine if it hit me on the head, but I'm assured by people with more refined palates than me that it's very good!

  5. How interesting! We have discovered some Pinot Noir pink fizzy from M&S about the same price, also very nice!

  7. I prefer prosecco to champagne anyway, so this is great - no waitrose near me unfortunately though!
