Old news sinking in.. the Lanvin love in

Twitter was awash, or all of a witter, yesterday with the exciting news that Lanvin will be the next designer collaboration for H&M. It seemed many in the fashion world were sitting down in chairs with the enormity of it all.
The fateful day will be November 23rd. I say fateful because I for one cannot imagine camping out on Oxford St or anywhere to get my mitts on a piece. Seriously, I haven't the stamina or the lifestyle that will allow such folly. So I know I won't be snagging a piece of Lanvin on the high street because the petit garcon will need his porridge and school tie straightened before we hop on the bus.

Practicalities and future disappointments aside, what a ruddy good coup! Lanvin is probably the most inaccessible of the design houses when you pit budget against availability. My love of Chanel is satisfied realistically with modest nail varnish purchases. My favourite house is Prada so I do push the boat out here once in a while. My most recent buy was 6 years after my last. In general Lanvin stays the right side of luxury although it is slowly but surely spreading its wings. With an e-store coming on line soon and new store opening in Madison Avenue, New York, Lanvin is building an empire on solid foundations laid down by the wonderful Alber Elbaz.

I really do like the fact he is spreading the dream and I hope I will be suitably impressed even if I won't be abandoning my mothering duties (though sorely tempted) to camp outside H&M. I'll be having nightmares of disappointment instead.

Who would you abandon your offspring/dog/granny for a H&M designer collaboration?

  3. Sounds like a wonderful idea, but let's face it, by the time I get there, the sizes that *I* need will already have been snapped up by Lanvin-aware ladies!

  4. Their website is relaunched next week isn't it? Wonder if the plan is to get any of the collection on sale that way? It'll probably be just as chaotic as trying to get it in store though.

  5. H&M are launching their e-commerce site on either 9th or 16th September (their ads are giving conflicting dates) so you'll only have to camp out by your computer.

  6. I don't usually brave trips to H&M as I find their stores to leave me totally overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the same time. But Lanvin will get me into their stores. I only hope that it is worth the trip!xo

  7. Not a fan of H&M, too much beige acrylic and cheap overhead lighting for me. I'm sure the Lanvin collection will be on eBay within minutes of it leaving the shop. xxx

  8. Lanvin is certainly a close contender for abondonment, but - as you have put the verbal finger in the wound so correctly - not a chance to get a piece of this wonderful collab, unless one is willing to camp. And not only am I too old for these follies, I'm also frightened of being trampled to death. Oh well...

  11. I might like to purchase something from the collaboration, but there is no way I'm going to stay in some line or be pushed around in the mad craze of people snatching things from the rack because I think that's very silly to act that way. I mean, they are just clothes. Did you ever see the video of the Sonia Rykiel madness??

  12. I will be in Lugano Switzerland. There is a small H&M, but I bet there will be no lines. Hope so anyway. Hope they have some of the Lanvin.

  13. You dont need to queue most poeple panic buy and return it a few days later, just check in store the week after I did on my way to work every day after the Choo and picked up everything I wanted, simples xx

  14. I'm in the same situation as Morgan. Though when Stella McCartney came to my local Target her stuff just languished on the racks because the locals here had no idea who she was, oh that and the stuff was shit.

  15. I've pretty much given up on H&M. When they do these designer collaborations, it seems like the merchandise is sold out before the doors even open, and the rest of what they offer just seems so shoddy. I have a co-worker in her 60's who finds cute stuff there, but I don't have the time or patience to go weekly and spend hours perusing.
