Microtrend?

Espadrilles seem to be offering men an alternative shoe of the summer despite the main trend being the deck shoes. They were worn by both men and women decades ago but of late mainly women have carried them on well outside of Catalan. I say Catalan because I always associate them with Barcelona and my favourite shop La Manual Alpargatera.

This image is from the inside of La Manual Alpargatera

I've nearly run out of my many pairs with these two pairs being left, a traditional flat pair and a lovely small wedge with a ribbon tie up.

Will you be wearing espadrilles this summer or do you know a guy who will be?

  1. Do these count? Eh, I guess they're kind of faux espadrilles: http://wendybrandes.com/blog/2010/03/wangsta-shoe/

  5. Am desperate for espadrilles but I can't find my perfect pair. They are sitting perfectly in my head I just can't seem to find them in reality. Something to do with the heel height methinks! Great blog :) Love TBAG x

  6. Espadrilles on men always remind me of Club Tropicana/Wham and strangely Nick from Curiosity Killed the Cat...at the San Remo music festival

  8. They are definatley one of those things that suit other people just not me, I nearly bought a Louboutin pair in the sale, but I really just couldn't picture them with any of my outfits. I do like think they look great on men, much better than flip-flops - seriously what a turn off!

  9. I remember many a summer when those were my shoe of choice. I don't ever remember finding them at all comfortable. I think I recall a feeling of rope burn on the bottom of my feet
