...and rolling ones sleeves up. These were the very words uttered by the new Chancellor - predicted here first. Also he actually said 'tightening our belts'. Now none of this is music to my ears in fact my first thoughts were inspired by a recent post by Queen Marie of Kingdom Of Style. Come on where is the fun when the ruddy Chancellor of the Exchequer is talking make do style!
However, it does appear that the UK is going to be beset with austerity fever in the name of reducing the national debt - as Faux Fuchsia would say people of China, India and the USA look away - 'tis only us Europeans and Blighty in particular who are involved in this sleeve rolling episode.
Working your wardrobe harder becomes more important and I will continue with Project 100 soon unless the Chancellor gets his hands on it first and makes it Project 33.5 based on a projected cut back of 20 items in year one and 46.5 items in year two if the budget deficit is to be turned around.
I do think that we need to get more out of the clothes we have. When I was younger I always wore my wardrobe with a more varied and interesting flair.. as I had to. I bought a lot from charity shops too, which were all were great quality. Now I still as I have said many times try to stick to a £ per wear item that I know I will get a lot of wear out of. But as we also know I am so very easily seduced by a pair of jeans or great boots :)...or maybe a jacket...etc etc
ReplyDeletechancellor shmancellor!! Boo Hiss... In the spirit of the book in Queen Marie's blog... I say Fuck it!
ReplyDeleteMy wardrobe is going to have to pull itself together emotionally and just Work Harder because I am NOT BUYING MORE STUFF. I was looking at discounted Pucci at the outnet but the dollar is losing ground like all get out against the greenback so I just clicked out of the site. I think I'll be able to do a lot with acccesories and summer frocks shoved over knits (which I'd call a skivvy and you wouldn't). You must do a guest post for me next couple of weeks about how it is fine for women 35 and older to embrace trends and follow fashion. Drop me a comment with your details and I won't publish it.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had gotten the concept of investment dressing earlier in life. I have frittered away too much money on pieces that haven't earned their keep. My goal for the next year is to buy 20 pieces that will LAST. It sounds easy and yet I know I will be tempted by what doesn't.
ReplyDeleteStill need and want more, but the sales are so close now, I am trying to hang in there!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! And you've made me feel a lot better about the huge number of LBD's in my wardrobe. I have SO many black dresses in every possible style. Many of them I've had for absolutely years and they never date. I would be really stuck without them. I find it much harder to put colour together. Have a fabulous weekend xx
