What has happened to Catherine Zeta Jones?

It could be the clothes but I don't think that is entirely the reason. Catherine Zeta Jones looks scrawny and old. This is a women in her early 40s who should be, given her lifestyle, looking glamorous and healthy. But to me she just looks thin and not in a good way. Am I being mean?

I completely understand the need to look slim/toned and particularly when you are in the entertainment industry. Why yesterday as I was sourcing clothes for the forthcoming events I had an experience in the changing room mirror that was truth uncovered. I need to reign in the expanding girth. This happens once in a while and more so as you get older. But I might want to look svelte but I don't want to look thin. The idea of looking scrawny like CZJ above or SJP is in my book a step to far but how does it happen? Do you lose any sense of self and become completely about clothes sizes.

  1. Like her dress, like her dog .. but you are right she looks a shadow of the beauty in the Darling buds of may.. being to thin can make you look so old if you are not careful there are very few that can pull it off..I am glad I am not one of them xx

  2. I read an article which states she is in some show that is taking its toll and hence she has lost weight. Might be time for me to "tread the boards".

  3. Well, I know her life has been a bit challenging lately. But, seriously, how youthfully-turned out are you likely to remain with an (admittedly hot) senior citizen husband / hanging with his many longtime friends of the same age. Even if those are Hollywood types. (Of course, this is entirely possible for some women, but I get the impression she's not really into being creative with fashion at the best of times.) And you know having 2 young kids can be the death of sartorial creativity. I think she's in a lull. But she's still insanely gorgeous.

  4. She is quite thin, but I think she looks quite nice, sort of Audrey Hepburnish and kind of French. I saw her recently in a red one shouldered numner and she looked gorgeous. SJP is the thinnest person I have ever seen in real life. She is def to thin.

  5. My gran always said as you age you either 'wisen or widen'. Or to put it another way, you have to make a choice what you care about most - your face or the size of your arse!
I would choose my face every time...

  6. In that photo I don't think she looks particularly scrawny - although they say the camera does add 10lbs! I have seen some pics where she looks a bit gaunt recently. Apparently if you want to look good in your 40's onwards, at some point you have to choose between arse and face! In answer to your question about Skylon - Yes.. fab. Lovely food, good service and a great view. Have fun! x

  7. Regarding the entertainment industry and the pressure to be thin: we have a good friend who works in casting and spends time on set and in production meetings. She says that often actresses who are cast at US size 4 or 6 are often pressured to lose weight, and do whatever it takes to get down to a size 2 or 0. She says the pressure can be very intense.

  8. I wonder if she would look so gaunt if her hair was down and not hidded under her beret. A big part of her overall look is her hair.
I do love her dress though. It is very chic.

  9. She doesn't seem to wear her hair all long and flowy anymore, and she whatever size she is wearing, she is definately chossing outfits that make her look much older than 40.

    Hmmm.

  10. not certain which female is being placed under the magnifying glass, but I'd much prefer to microscopically scrutinize someone of the opposite sex

  11. Not a great photo, she looks very drab and haggard to me.
I agree with Belle De Ville, I think she'd look much prettier with her hair down to soften her looks.
There must be tremendous pressure on female actresses to toe the line and be super-thin, such a shame, she was a beauty.

  12. Maybe the all black also makes her look a little older? She was always quite luscious looking - the very thin look doesn't seem to be her style. As for other skinnies like SJP, I really think that's her body type. She's never been anything but thin, and getting scrawnier looking as you get older is an unfortunate reality for some people ...

  13. I'm thinking it could be the all black too. It seems a little harsh with her fair skin. I'm picturing her in a hot pink dress - definitely wouldn't look so old with a bit of colour.

  14. I'm more concerned with the work she's had on her face. Hate her in any case.

But just today, I explained to my husband that if I tried to lose the roll of flab that is my stomach, I would be too scrawny everywhere else. It's just not worth it.

  15. LOL @ K.Line...girl, you KNOW Mr. B and I have the same age difference as CZJ and Michael Douglas, right? Y'all better know when I start to dress like MrB's contemporaries...yike!

  16. Wendy: I phrased that very carefully because I KNEW you would be reading! Let me just say that you are outrageously stylish to begin with (something I suspect Ms. ZJ is not) and she has always seemed kind of old for her age - not in looks, but in attitude. Also, you don't have 2 young children to contend with - something that can zap the youth out of the best of us 40 somethings.

Hopefully, I have backtracked successfully :-)

  17. Excellent work, K.Line.

I've always thought that not having children was an excellent way to maintain one's youthful looks! ;-)

  18. CZJ has probably lost too much weight for her Broadway play. The thing I used to like about her was that she was curvaceous.

  19. Maybe she is unhappy. She looks better when she is curvy. But i know the need to keep tabs on your weight. I had done something about mine but have undone it again.....now the sun is shining. Ooops. Xxxxx

  20. hmm.. i think it's the hat that's making her look cancer patient-y, but yeah, i was wondering where she went!

  21. What I found most beautiful about Catherine Zeta Jones were her curves. Scrawny just doesn't suit her.
