Costume analysis

InStyle feature a great retrospective of Carrie's Sex and the City costumes plus a feature of the ones in the forthcoming SATC2 The Movie. I always think of the outfits as costume because Carrie is fictional. I wasted a lot of money and time on creating my own fictional Carrie lifestyle/performance but it was worth it!

I have to confess to being a bigger fan of the TV series and the more eccentric Carrie outfits from it. The movie costumes are too polished and contrived. Does this reflect the lifestyle development of Carrie's story? Remember how her style changed when she met the Russian! Oh well I will no doubt bustle along to the cinema to watch it ....

Reminisce of a bygone time at InStyle

And get to see the credits for WendyB's Cleopatra earrings oh and few outfits too.

  1. I started watching SATC in the late 90s and always loved the outfits. One of the most exciting things ever was walking down 5th Ave in Noo Yawk in 2003 and seeing an episode being shot with Sam and Carrie. I agree that the movie outfits are more polished. I loved seeing Pat Field being interviewed in the early noughties saying she was sick of people asking how C could afford the outfits on her salary she said "I don't know-a designer gave them to her?" Looking forward to the movie. xx

  4. Like you I prefer the less polished look from the TV series over that of the film. My favourite look out of all of them is the one where she has her faux fur coat and the vintage skirt on... I love Carrie style though.

  5. I don't really see much point in going to see the film seeing as we already know everything Carrie wears and where we can buy an exact copy. I hated all the product placement in the first film and this time there are all these naff SATC lines which just give me a headache. I love SJP but I really think she let this go too far....

  6. I'm feeling your headache too but I love that some people are winners like Wendy's talent getting lots of exposure - so it's not all bad! But I agree the first one was enough and this had better be enough!!

  8. I'm going to jump on the band wagon too - I prefer the outfits in the series. Most 'hits' but definitely the rare, cringe worthy 'miss'. But that's what made it so good. I'm thrown by the desert scenes in the previews - seems like a stretch yes? And seems like the costumes are just too much?

  9. Oh my, her legs look so spindly and awful! And that's all I ask to be happy.
