High Street Pick of the Week

Not truly a high st pick and not something I'd do normally. Yes, yes, okay I've picked something from Boden. Look before you judge me, I've drunk 2 glasses of wine the night before to pluck up the courage.

It is like this... the catalogue arrived through the door and I opened page one and was won over. Then I looked through the rest of it and was bored, relieved and under whelmed. Yes I realise Johnnie Boden will never ask me to style his 'collection' and there will be no press freebies blah blah blah bit whateves..

This is it...it said Mad Men to me and I would like to point out that I've watched it from the off and I'm very excited because series 4 kicks off in the UK on the 9th of September. Whilst no one can escape the Mad Men vibe these days it isn't often that I use the words, Boden + trend + fashion + Mad Men + love it, all in one sentence. Probably never again and I might live to regret it anyway - you know the wine, the feeling of yes all is well with the world, even Boden. Bring on LFW I obviously need some edge.

Meanwhile I give you middle England's version of Mad Men. Personally I'd go for red or black.

At £75 it is a bit pricey but Boden does generally deliver on quality.

UPDATE: Well folks I spoke to the lovely helpful call centre peeps and guess what this dress was available as pre-order (who knew Boden were getting all pre-order on us) and sold out which would be fine but they are not restocking due to such long lead in time from their overseas manufacturers. Folks today is Sept 4th! This item is the first garment in the catalogue, women want it That's Not My Age alerted me to the problem and she would have looked a wow in the green dress. I want it in red and I never want Boden things except for the petit garcon who looks adorable in them. Come on Johnnie this is not good, it smacks of inefficiency and poor decision making not Boden.

  1. Great colour, nice shape, I can see it being a very practical dress. Not having to shop for "day wear" I don't buy many dresses xx

  5. I have been given a couple of Boden tops as gifts and I have to say that I have worn them a LOT more than I thought I might.

I buy some bits and bobs for my son from the kids catalogue - all very durable and well made. And he loves the designs!

Like this green dress, but my bosom will just make it look matronly, not Mad Men :-)

  8. Tut tut Johnnie - what's the point of featuring something you cannot buy. My Babour Minx coat is already sold out too in Black and I was on the bloody wait list!

  9. Mrs Make Do - But doesn't she have to shoe-horn herself into all manner of wired garments to make that pneumatic shape? I've only got an M&S bra - it does well, but cannot perform miracles ;-)

Tight things with v-necks or sweetheart necklines are fine on me. Perhaps I need to be more experimental with what I try on in shops lol!

  10. Ali - you need to step away from the M&S bras and get those babies into Fantasie or Freya. They will and do perform miracles. Get a tape measure and measure around your rib cage and snuggly too. Then measure around the bust not loosely but not snug.

Give me measurement 1 & 2 in inches and I'll select some bras for you that will change your life!

  11. I am slowly coming round to Boden, The girl who does their styling looks great in their stuff on her blog. I also love this dress but that restocking business is bollocks if your reading Johnnie!

  20. I wanted this dress too (in green) . . . looks like the Goat dress Victoria Beckham was sporting recently. I've never bought anything from Boden but I am already disappointed :(
