Near death by shoulder pads

In case you've been reading of late and think this blog is written by an angst ridden introvert who's mission it is to spread dictates, well actually I'm a near death survivor and still obviously suffering from post traumatic stress shoulder pad syndrome.

I teach four times a year on a personal styling course for NHJ Style Academy. It has been running now for nearly three years and offers a very comprehensive training for would be stylists. The course had some input by me but is devised by Isobel Kershaw (in fact the Honourable Isobel Kershaw). Isobel studied fashion design and worked for a fashion house in Spain and then in Harrods. I will do an interview with Isobel soon as she is a brilliant stylist but like me, put her children first (martyrs to responsibility!)

At the last course in January, a photographer came to take photos of us teaching and when the students went for lunch we had to do a few obligatory poses. This is how a stylist nearly came meet her maker. The last time shoulder pads carried a health warning was when Alexis Carrington went for Krystle Carrington in one of their many catfights.

The moment Isobel went for the jugular in a Kill Bill move with her left shoulder pad, was captured on camera. It was only due to the lighting reaction of tilting my head back that I survived to tell this story. And yes I did laugh in the face of adversity. It took quite a while for the photographer to compose themselves again.

  9. God I'm hoping for a final death blow to the shoulder pad. Having lived through them in the 1980s I don't ever want to be accosted by them again.

  14. Sounds like a course I would love to attend, and you both look lovely... nothing like the Dynasty bitches! I expected way worse (in terms of shoulder pad size) before I scrolled down and saw the picture... xo

  15. You are beautiful! And on the shoulder pad fad thing I have nothing to say, other than that I am scared of how silly I'd look if I'd show up wearing them somewhere.
