How I jumped for joy, well as near as anyone can jump for joy at half ten at night under a purple velvet throw, when I watched the weather report after the London & South East news. It is warming up - it is official! On Friday, why it is positively sweltering at 14 degrees Celsius.
Of all the trends that make a small but continuous impact, the crafty, prairie chic, ugh excuse me for typing the next word, hipster look is the one I pass on every time. Yet there is one aspect of this look that I own.
I blame it on watching too many spaghetti westerns or maybe it was because in the 70s my mum put me in them a lot....it is of course the poncho.
The poncho is a word not about to fill you with a warm fashionable glow but equally if you move from cape to poncho during warmer months you don't have to give up your style stakes. There is a poncho out there for every occasion and if truth be told you could make your own with a large square piece of material and just make an opening for your head. Don't let an doubts enter for this strike of individuality. There is a style for every preference, sporty, sloaney, live in wet area and for the daring fashionista.
I love the last one..I am a sucker for something stylish that is also warm and easy to wear xx
ReplyDeleteHi my dear-love the last one too, I would love to thrift a plain black wool one, will have to keep my eyes peeled!!
ReplyDeleteI can't quite make out the details on the first one but I think its a bit fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching St Elmo's Fire in the 80's and Demi Moores character had a red cape/poncho thing with (hopefully) faux tails hanging from it. My god I loved that cape, I looked everywhere to find one and couldn't, and I probably shouldn't say this out loud, but I'd still really like to own it.
They scare me more than chinos do! Oh, I'm hopeless.
ReplyDeleteA poncho!! I could do a poncho!!! Come on Alex, we can hold hands and get ponchos and chinos together ;-D

The Topshop Boutique one looks damn cosy...and it certainly doesn't feel any warmer in this house! x
ReplyDeleteI like the last one best. Partial to a poncho as it covers everything up so well!
ReplyDeleteDear Kate, I love poncho's. The last one is my favourite. The kagoule one scares me as do chino's. I don't mind them but they would never suit me.
ReplyDeleteI bought a John Rocha cream wool one on Ebay last week for £1.70. I must blog it but I'm a bit behind due to hangovers! I'm glad LFW is over now.
Hope you're having a good week xx
I do love a poncho but they are so common in charity shops round here I tend to wear them a couple of times and gand them back. Perfect festival wear around the campfire. xxx
ReplyDeleteI've got an old (vintage?!) winter white Donna Karan poncho that I wore for my wedding rehearsal and dinner. A favorite piece, it's short and super long, I can't describe it well but I was pretty amazed at the time how elegant it was for a piece of fabric with a hole cut out of the head!
ReplyDeleteI have never even tried poncho on, I'm afraid I might look silly. But I saw Marina (from the Diamonds) wearing it at LFW so I might get one soon! She's such a style setter for me :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the fringed one, never worn a poncho but be quite happy to try one now, quite like the idea of dressing for comfort while still being stylish! xx
ReplyDeleteI liked the rainmac it would be perfect for festivals - not that I do that but you know if I ever did!
ReplyDeletei love effortless chic on lazy days! what a fab post, thanks for sharing!
