I have to confess to being a no foundation girl. I very occasionally resort to a light smattering and this has only been due to creating a base for other makeup. I really don't suit foundation mainly because I feel it ages me. I'm not very good at doing grown up!
Due to moving with the times I have tried a few primers over the last year or too. But I have to say none impressed me and I stuck to my MAC strobe cream mixed with a tiny amount of foundation when I wanted to created a seemingly flawless look.
Not any more, I finally succumbed to indifference and broke open a sample primer in desperation that I'd been given nearly two years ago. It has changed my life in more ways than one. I cannot convey how silky smooth it is, how flawless a complexion it gives and equally protects the skin. Best of all my eye make up stays in place.
I'm not normally one for loving a photo taken of me as I'm not usually caught in the right way. Mr MDS has long tormented me with his ability to make me look like a right goof ball every time he takes a photo of me. He got it bang on on new years eve, and so delighted am I that I've sold my photo to the devil and paraded it everywhere.
As a stylist I would say it was the eyes that nailed it! The face and eyes were prepared with Arbonne Makeup Primer and I added a mix of 3 eye shadows from Max Factor, Nars and Dior, then eye liner and mascara. My lips were quite pale and neutral by dabbing with foundation and adding a lip gloss. I know I'm selling the damn stuff but I am in love with the primer it is worth every penny!
I couldn't agree more! I am obsessed with Napolean Auto-pilot 'it's a crime not to prime' primer. I use it under a tinted moisturiser for a light look that doesn't get super oily. Try it people!

I love primers too! Currently using Laura Merciers and also something new from Shisheido to cover up pores as well.
ReplyDeleteDoriana - the Arbonne one does it all! I love Laura Mercier but this primer is the business!
ReplyDeleteI will try and remember about this product next time I run out :)
ReplyDeleteI have used Clarins Beauty Flash mixed with whatever I have since I was 16. These days the beauty flash goes on first and then a good layer of foundation because of my wonderful Australian brown spots that haunt me.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite foundation is Chanel Lift Lumiere - It is a desert island item for me. Would give up champagne Friday for it.
That photo of you really was stunning, Kate. I've never worn foundation as I don't like that "done up" effect. I've always wondered what primer was, it sounds a great investment. xxx
ReplyDeleteVix - I am truly a hideous sight with foundation! I do need this primer to defeat the London grime and since wearing it my skin has never been better!
ReplyDeleteYour make-up looks fab! I'll have to put this primer on my shopping list, I need to re-evaluate my skincare regime as I am now near to my fortieth landmark birthday!
ReplyDeleteI don't wear foundation either, scared it will make me look even older and sink into the cracks!
ReplyDeleteIs that primer available in the US?
ReplyDeleteI have horrible skin and have to wear foundation every day. If a primer would help to make my foundation look a little more natural, I would happily invest in it.
Dear Kate, lovely picture of you.
ReplyDeleteI always wear tinted moisturiser or foundation. The natural look is not for me and I look pasty without make up as I don't sunbathe.
I've just run out of the primer that Dior kindly sent me. I am totally skint this month but will definitely give the Arbonne one a try when some dosh goes into my account.
I'd love to test the products if the offer's still open? xx
Sorry, nothing to do with primer - though I should really start to pay attention to make-up; I've always been a minimalist where make-up is concerned, but maybe it's time to rethink...hmm
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I just wanted to thank you for recommending The Best Of Everything by R Jaffe - I borrowed it from the library and am LOVING it!
I don't wear foundation, it makes me feel ridiculous but I am obsessed with Clarins Beauty Flash especially as it soothes my skin when it feels sore from the cold and wind - is the Arbonne one good for that or more of a primer in the traditional sence? I have to say I am tempted to try it when my Clarins runs out, I am also going to confess the sleek bottle is luring me in!
ReplyDeleteBelle De Ville - yes it is and you can buy it from my website!
ReplyDeletePearl - I know I'm going to sound like a freaking convert to something in an evangelical way but the primer beats the shit out of everyone. I can't believe I had the sample sat there for so long. Wear the primer on its on out in the cold and wind and your skin will be super soft and divine!
ReplyDeleteHi there-sounds like a very invaluable product, you look so lovely in this photo and its a good price too! xx
ReplyDeleteI think my face hates foundation. It always looks so weird on me that I very rarely bother with it but I must admit, it does look a lot better when I use MAC's primer stuff (Prep & Prime? see, told you it was rarely used!)
ReplyDeleteAnd here I've always avoided primer as unnecessary. Am willing to give it a shot!
ReplyDeleteCatherine - isn't it the best - you can see how SATC came about!
