New Year New Style High Street Pick of the Week

For over 3 years (yep this is the fourth year of Make Do Style) High Street Pick of the Week has graced this blog. To date it has always been completely random in the sense I select an item I think anyone could wear and like or add to their wardrobe. However this year I've decided to be focused in my selections so that they are like a cut out series!

Each item chosen from the high street will create functioning wonderful wardrobe for any age. Remember it is all about attitude and taking risks. If the item selected isn't available in the store then source something similar. It will be a mix of trend and wardrobe staples but I assure you everything selected can be mixed and matched however you wish. Trust me and print the posts out to compile the wardrobe if you want.

The trouble is this week is we are still in Sale season so I'm starting with a pair of jeans. Now I know we've all been living in our skinnies for years but it really is time for an alternative. The wide leg trouser or jean are going to be your new best friends.

I'm too short I hear you cry, don't worry just add wedges. Was that a I'm too podgy, I heard. Well you will wear tops over the waist to hip area but they must be semi fitted otherwise it will all go boho and we are looking to recreate the 1930s/1970s vibe. Don't worry the tops will be addressed. And also tummy tuck big knickers work a treat.

These ones are from Gap (ideal because you can order online) and they have it all the high waist, the large pockets on the bag, a good seam down the front and a large hem.

  2. I have an old pair of flared Levi's which I wear all the time, the high waist is more flattering than you think!

  3. Thanks Kate, I do need a pair of decent high waist flares. My problem is that I have bootylicious thighs in proportion to my waist, and any trouser tend to strain rather than skim over the thigh and hip area. I'll try these Gap ones out x

  5. I'm scared of widelegged trousers. Even with wedges, I'm still worried I look square. Stupid height.

  9. I do love a good pair of flares and those are just gorgeous. Great choice and perfect with a kaftan-style top and a long pendant to hide any post-Xmas rolls. xxx

  11. I like your style, I'm short with short legs but still like wearing a wide leg jean. I just compensate with a big pair of heels and it actually enlongates your legs.

  16. So cute. For some reason I look dreadful in wide-legged jeans but just fine in the same silhouette in a different fabric.
