Pleated and defeated

About six years ago I bought a pleated skirt from H&M that I loved. I wore it loads and swore I'd never part with it. It was a proper to the knee black full pleated skirt. Then I had the petit garcon and when I tried on my pleated skirt apres maternity clothes I sort of didn't like the way it accentuated my hips. In a fit of pique I either sold it on ebay or gave it to charity.

I miss that skirt and I'm continually searching for its replacement. And boy was it cheap at £24.99.

What I want is my old skirt, I don't want it longer than the knee or a much shorter version. In my mind on the knee or very slightly above is the perfect pitch for the pleats.

This number is nearly there from Topshop. I have two issues, one is that it might be too long and the second is the fact I'm on a style challenge so a high street purchase is out of the question.

  1. OOH that is my PET HATE. I had the situation with a favourite pair of bargain boots (Dolcis, remember them?) - they were ankle high, had a hefty heel with a wicked 'curve' to it, were all-day-comfy but looked good with narrow trousers and a top for clubbing (ah, Irememeber clubbing).

One day, after 10 years of being worn at least twice a week and many, many repairs my regular cobbler man said 'sorry luv, I can't mend them any more, you've worn them to death'. :( Booohooo! My shoe life since then has had a strange, haunted element, trying on every pair of black boots from KG to M&S in search of 'those' boots. But I know deep down I will never find the exact same pair.

  2. I've got a Fornarina black 100% silk skirt that I love but I've never worn (still has tags - I , too, have since had a child!. It is labelled size S, but I can give you the measurements, if you are interested? (as a gift, I mean).

  3. Sorry, just feeling moved by Perdita's boots story!

Well as you may remember, I love a pleated skirt - they are chic yet massively underrated. (Loved talking to you and Pearl about pleats at the Manchester event.) May you find something designer at TK Maxx...

  9. Hi my dear-will keep my eyes open whilst on my thrifting trips, its so annoying to give an item away and realise much later you wish you'd kept it, oh I've done this too many times too, lol!

  11. In my recent closet clear I had three pleated skirts that I had to say goodbye to. Now that they are gone, and my hips are much gone, I am in the market for a few pleats. That is a lovely option.

  15. Dear Kate, I loved the look of that TopShop skirt but when I tried it on it did not work for me, it is only lined half way down, so you can console yourself that you are not missing out; I do know what you mean about getting rid of things and then wanting them back. decluttering is a dangerous game xx
