A while back I mentioned Brigitte Bardot and have actually done a small post on her on my autre blog Fashion and Film.
I consider my promise duly kept and also give you Girls Aloud and my secretly listened to tune - The Promise and see if you don't think there is a Bardot influence in their current styling!
I don't think it's really Bardot, but a general 60's styling in the music which has spilled over to an image.
ReplyDeleteAnd really that was nabbed from Winehouse!

Anon - hi yes it does have a very 60s vibe and Bardot was at her height then - well early to mid. Their dresses are very Supremes but I'm not sure about the Winehouse look - after all Amy is more 50s in terms of dress and more kitsch.
ReplyDeleteHi Anon (again!) actually I didn't realsie until after your comment and sort of thinking about it later how much Amy has lifted from Bardot -although Bardot wasn't the only person to adopt this look at the time. I reference her because of her printed/screen images.
ReplyDeleteI always think of Winehouse as a hispanic pastische of the paintingof the mexican girl crying.
what great fun to see the video and the nostalgic elements of their dress, hair, and minimal choreography - and yes, the Motown-ishness...my own word. alas, when old is made new again it brings us comfort- at least for moi- lol ! Thanks for sharing and for the great intentions of your stylish blog-reminds me of my newest deco style (3 years in the making) "use what you have"/ or "on a budget of zero!" Here's to a creative response to downward economics.
