Au naturale

Yesterday I did a brave thing, I left the house with my natural hair. Everyday I brush my hair a lot or use a hot brush to attempt the straighten my hair - I've never mastered straighteners. I have wavy hair which looks like someone has given me a perm and not necessarily one you'd pay for. Using a heavy conditioner and leaving a residue which creates weight helps in the de-waving process.

I decided to brave the world au naturale as I didn't have time to do my hair unless I got up earlier and 6:30am was early enough for me. It was raining and what ever I did would result in a frizz ball upon my hair. It was a strange experience and I'm not sure I can tolerate being with the wave everyday as I felt really self conscious which surprised me given I'll wear or experiment with any outfit. But it was easier then the daily effort of correction.

Interestingly I'd rather go to the dentist than the hairdressers. I know I'm not the only person hiding their natural hair but do you go au naturale or are you heavily into hair correction too?

  1. Trying to do anything with my hair besides what it wants would be a fool's errand -- it has a mind of its own. So curly I am, and curly I like to be. I think your hair is lovely with its waves -- you've no reason to feel self-conscious!

  2. Hi there-well, I don't and haven't ever dyed my hair, but i do blow dry it, as mine would just go into a long tangled mess otherwise!

  3. You are beautiful on these pictures !

  4. You are so lucky to have wavy hair - look at its natural bounce in the photos!

  5. Your hair looks great! I recently changed to a style that takes 2 minutes to dry. I love feeling liberated from the restrictive regime, expense and waste of time of high maintenance hair. Becuase it's just not worth it (apologies to L'Oreal)

  6. You should defintely try a beach hair curcling product, you just scrunch it in and leave it to dry naturally, and you come out with tidy, defined waves rather than frizz. although I think your natural hair looks nice anyway!

I have fairly straight hair anyway, and I do blow dry and straighten it quickly most mornings, but it takes literally 1 minute, because my hair is also fine, so straightens easily. Either that, or I wear it in a ponytail, like today.

  7. I think it looks great. I prefer au natural personally. I have wavy hair too, and I just leave it to do it's thing every day. Sometimes it's really curly, sometimes just wavy and sometimes quite straight! I never quite know what hair I'm getting - unless I try too hard with it and then it goes frizzy! Embrace the wave I say! xxxx

  8. It does look great. I'm very lazy with my hair. I love going to the hairdressers, Ora in Covent Garden is where I normally go and I love them. But my hair is crazy mad, sounds similar to everybodysaysdont's hair, wavy and with a mind of it's own. A quick blow dry in the morning and I'm off. And if it's too bad there's always a hairband to shove it all back!

  10. My hair is entirely natural... I don't colour or perm or straighten it! Much easier, less fuss! I love long straight hair so it isn't too much trouble!

  11. I think your hair looks good in its natural state... but I guess we are always our own worst judges!? My hair is naturally straight, so I always let it self dry. Unfortunately, this means having to walk around with wet hair at the beginning of each and every day - the price I pay for being lazy.

  12. Hey girl!

Your natural hair is amazing, I have wavy hair as well and almost all the time they are 'au natural'. As I wash my hair everyday, it doesn't have time to loose their waves...but, after a little while after it gets dry, my hair becomes to be more straight....For me, it is the most fun about hair, it is the possibility of changing and, because of that, I am always happy to have a new look with my hair...straight, wavy etc...

    You are so beautiful!

About your ballet question. Yes, I did ballet before, but only when I was a kid. I think it doens't count...right? The truth is: I am really starting from zero and I am loving the experience! I hope I can develope some ballet skills soon!
And the ballet outfit is so cute!!!

    Many kisses!!

    Thanks so much for all!

  14. I LOVE your hair this way, K.

I don't dig the salon, either.

I go natural all the time. It would be useless for me to do anything else.

  15. You look cute! I, however, am devoted to my flat iron. It's changed my life!

  16. I mean, to clarify, a chunky barrette (I know you have a pin in there...)

  17. Oh, you do look very pretty.

This is actually very anti-fashion of me, but I do absolutely nothing to my hair. On most days. I wash it and slick it back in a pony and go. It's a bit haphazard and samey, but I don't have time to experiment! xx

  19. What's this hot brush you speak of? Haha I hate straightening my hair! You look gorgeous though au naturale!

  20. I believe women find a secret strength when they stop fighting their hair texture! It's like you come into your own. I have very straight hair and will never be one of those ladies that lunch with big hair! lol

  21. Love you wavy, lady! I'm all about ease, so I wash, scrunch in some mousse, and go.

  22. Well, my hair is black. There were times when I wish it was brown or anything lighter. I did camouflage it with color. :)

  23. You are blessed with waves! Here I am wishing for your hair. Mine is pencil straight.

  24. I love your hair au naturale, it looks great. I'm far too lazy to straighten out all my curls everyday, so it's the natural look all the way for me!

  25. Hmm . . . my hair is wavy too but I rarely wear it down. It gets in my way and is too distracting during class, so I always tie it up. I prefer it tied up when it's au naturel, for the visual texture, but I'm always rushing, so I dry it and toss it up! Do you put product on your wet hair?

  26. This natural look is beautiful! How Diane von Furstenberg of you to embrace your natural style. I also hate hate hate the stylist. My natural hair isn't great but I prefer to just put it up or braid it instead of "correcting" it. I also am of the opinion that, since I spend so much time on my clothes etc, I should just leave my hair alone. It used to have quite a nice wave (not nearly as gorgeous as yours, though) but now is pretty much straight--it changed in my mid-twenties. I used to be into it but now I want nothing more than my wave back. Wear you hair natural, you lucky thing, it's beautiful!

  27. Every time I leave the house with my natural hair I tell myself I am doing French hair. You look fantastically French.

  28. I think you look fabulous with the natural wave! It's the kind of thing which would settle into something you could deal with every day....I know mine settles into quite a nice style when I leave it alone for a few days....why I never carry on leaving it alone I don't know!!! ;)

  29. Looks a lot like my hair au natural. But I rarely do it, as I too am addicted to the flat iron!
