The make do effort increases

Far from falling at the first hurdle, and many presented themselves not least the leather Zara shorts, I've stayed the course. I've not even frittered a penny on knickers or sock and believe me I could so with some new underwear.

I have had to buy beauty products but have stuck to creams for face and body. I've abandoned expensive ones and have settled fro points make prizes purchases at Boots. Anything I get on my Advantage card is splurged on make up. Without this I would not have got the Chanel nail varnish 505 Particulière.

I've opted for Eucerin, Olay and Nivea or Dr Nick Lowe - it depends on the £5 off voucher and any bonus points I might get. All of which have done no harm to my face. In fact I haven't noticed any difference. The Eucerin Q10 one has been my favourite.

Work is slow and although I'm not earning much nothing is being frittered away. I'm hoping I can build on this to extend my good behaviour and stick to it. The longer I go the better my chances are at becoming solvent again.

I know it isn't easy to change habits, I'm still munching those rich tea biscuits and I need to stop but I'm rather alarmed at how good at personal finances I've finally become! Why did it take so long...

  3. Looks like you are being rather successful at being thrifty. Personally I find there is sth really satisfying about saving money (on the other hand, spending it, too...). My personal favourites: fixing socks so they last years longer, baking my own bread and brownies and NEVER throwing good quality clothes away!

  4. Make Do well done re the THRIFT I love THRIFT and you are clearly being Thriftastic! My dermatologist-to-the-stars Dr GW says cheap stuff is as good as the spensive stuff and that creme de la mer is made of petroleum jelly!!!!

  8. Wow, very impressed. I should have joined in on your girlynomics challenge but I was in Buenos Aires at that point buying a new dress for the three weddings I am going to this year.

But I should, and I almost do. I haven't bought anything (other than the dress) since Christmas and I too don't spend much on creams and potions.

Perhaps if I made a record of it it would help though. Inspire me to continue! Hmmm...

  9. Munch away! You Brits have all the best snack foods :-)

I have had to buy beauty products as well - not makeup but my potions. I debated buying cheap and cheerful from the pharmacy, but in the end stuck with my regular (L'Occitane). I was horrified, having bought all 3 of the usual items at the same time - rather than staggering, as I generally do - that the cost was $175.00.

Honestly, I almost put them back and walked away. But people often tell me how nice and youthful my skin is. In the event that this line has anything to do with it, I feel it's a smart cost.

Of course, if it's genetics, then I'm just a brainwashed idiot.

  10. Faux Fushia - it is more than thrift it is last resort! I'm determined to change bad habits of a life time. I've been very thrifty but still have frittered too much. It's amazing how easy it is to justify purchase. I'm going to live with what I've got.

Wildernesschic - I've never had this willpower before but currently it only works on the not spending money and paying back student debts. I wish it would transfer to biscuits, crisps, cakes and wine!

Marie - it does only apply to clothes and is meant to yield you a lump sum that can be spent on a quality item. In my case it is tackling my debts due to MA. Always debts!

K-Line - due to cut backs am currently on ritz crackers and rich tea biscuits. Less calories too but I seem to go for volume!
I'm afraid 9 times out of 10 it is the genes, however product do add day to day lustre so enjoy the splendour xx

  13. I go back and forth between Cetaphil and Eucerin. My skin is sensitive and can only manage certain cremes.
