One of the best examples of how to combine black on white was the costume Audrey Hepburn wore to Ascot in the film My Fair Lady (1964). Cecil Beaton designed the costumes and the Ascot outfit is stunning.
I've noticed a few designers being inspired by this creation with garments they've designed for the high street.
Principles by Ben De Lisi dress £35 (not in store yet)
I'm going to be mixing up the black and white when summer arrives - how about you?
I'm always a fan of black and white. I LOVE that Ben de Lisi dress, and what a great price! xx
ReplyDeleteOh that is lovely! It's very similar to one in H&M last year that I was coveting but I bet it's much, much better quality.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful. I often admire the new Principles range if I'm passing through Debenhams, gorgeous statement stuff at great prices. xxx
ReplyDeleteI love a black-and-white look. It's very good for a holiday as you can travel light - everything matches!
ReplyDeleteI love that principles dress! I have a few monochrome dresses that I like to wear with a hot pink belt or a bright cardie, I'll have to dig them out for Spring! xx
ReplyDeleteDear Kate, that dress is good. I love black and white and I shall definitely be doing something with the clothes I already have. I don't have anything like that dress though! xx
ReplyDeleteI have always had a 'thing' for black and white, partly My Fair Lady inspired and partly Emma Peel inspired I think. I bought a lovely new-ish Wallis dress with a black and white blocky floral print recently, which I've already HAD to wear (despite it being more summery in mood) and will continue to do so throughout the summer I'm sure ;)

I love black and white. Always a winning combination. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteI was lying in bed this morning planning my black and white summer outfits (before I read this post....must be in the air)
ReplyDeleteHi there-the dress is simply chic and a real style classic, a great pick!! xx
ReplyDeleteI like the dress but would like the stripe sections the other way round, that way it would be more flattering for me!
ReplyDeleteI am completely in love with the Ben de Lisi dress. It's blummen cheap too!
ReplyDeletelove black and white but I always spill food on my white stuff...
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress, I love the opposite stripes on the top and boottom!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get hold of that hat and just sashay around the city wearing it, pretending it was a perfectly ordinary look and watching people react.
