Yes I loved the way the magazine editor dressed in Lipstick jungle, not so many series more old films with me. I love the Grace Kelly style in "High Society" and the little thief in "To catch a thief" also of course "Breakfast at Tiffanys" and the little cigarette pants and sweater in "Sabrina"...yes I love all the old ones xx
ReplyDeleteHas to be Sex and the City, i've bought a few bags over the years I've seen on Carries arm. I've gone off Gok and haven't watched this series.
ReplyDeleteGok LOL, no he certainly doesnt do it for me! It just annoys me that in order to produce an outfit her has to chop things up and stick bloody flowers all over it. I think they should let me on the show as the third person and I would make much better outfits than them both, costing far less money, with a mix of designer, vintage and highstreet, so Gok if your listening!!!
ReplyDeleteI am also the only person in the world to never watch man men, Ive had two amazing full skirts from Whistles for a couple of years and fell I cant wear them now for people thinking I want to be in mad men. I would say SATC probably influenced by style most, just seeing Carries outfits and how they were so mixed up really influenced me to play around with different things you wouldnt normally consider. I would love them to bring the clothes show back there arent any proper fashion programmes.
like the red black stocking really pretty
ReplyDeleteLove the classic looking dresses so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched Mad Men, but its been on my to-do list for a while. I don't think I've ever been influenced in my personal style by a TV Show, though I caught Scooby Doo yesterday and I thought Daphne was rocking her purple dress, pink tights look.
ReplyDeleteI only saw one series of Gok (the naked? series) but I bought his book and I love it.
Gok's Fashion Fix? No - it seems bizarre that you have to customise high street to such a degree to look good. Also, I found the designer end frustrating - wonderfully chic clothes swamped by bad styling! How to Look Good Naked always gives me a boost on a 'fat day' though.
ReplyDeleteAs for TV shows that have influenced my style...nothing directly, but I have to admit that if my outfit needs 'something', I think back to Carrie, and if I want to look glamorous, I imagine Samantha...
I don't mind How To Look Good Naked but his constant embellishing and hacking in Fashion Fix does drive me a little mad.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember having been inspired by a particular tv programme to wear something. I think I just browse the shops and buy what I like. If I buy and wear something that's too obviously inspired by something then I do always feel like I'm playing dress up and it unsettles me a little.
I read an article in the daily fail that said Goks TV persona is an act! (Shock and horror!) I'm very influenced by the TV, especially if i'm watching it whilst i'm getting dressed: yesterday i wore my white dress, just because Emma Bunton was wearing one whilst presenting gmtv - how sad is that?!
ReplyDeleteI am desperate to get the whole madmen boxset but my dvd player in my room has died, boooo so i now need a new dvd player aswell!

The last TV series to inspire me must have been Tales of The City, 1970's San Francisco would be my ultimate dream destination if I had a Tardis handy.
ReplyDeleteI still love Gok and admire his ways of reworking bland old high street stuff with simple things like buttons and braiding, not that it's any different to what most of us have been doing for years but at least he tries to make people think outside the box and not dress in exactly the same way as every other person in the UK. xxx
I'm not a fan of Gok really. I hate to admit, but SATC really does have the power to influence my personal style.
ReplyDeleteI love Mad Men and the ladies' style... But I must admit, I am also influenced by shows like Gossip Girl!
ReplyDeleteFun post, darling!
xoxox,
CC
The Sonny & Cher Show for sure.
ReplyDeleteI love these research posts! Obviously style TV icons for me include SATC (my favourite season would number five) also like some earlier posters the ladies from lipstick jungle and Gossip Girl - Lily Bass being my favourite but secretly wanting to borrow Blair Waldorf's closet for a while. For dressing up, I thought Danni's style last year on the X-factor, I even got my hair cut into a bob! I've noticed that as I've got older my icons have shifted to a classic, age-defying style so currently I love Mary Portas and the main actresses style in The Good Wife.
ReplyDelete:) Norfolk Massive
ReplyDeleteI am with you for now - Mad Men chic is cool. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteSATC was a great long running series but I never did buy into copying their looks. I was more into who was wearing what on T4 - used to love checking out June Sarpong and Alexa's gear on a Saturday morning.
ReplyDeleteDynasty always inspires big hair and glamour x
ReplyDeleteI haven't been inspired by TV, although I have to agree with Vintage Vixen about Tales of the City which I loved the show and all the books.
ReplyDeleteI think I was first influenced aged about five watching old Thirties and Forties movies and loving the glamour xx
