Pure Pleasure at Piccadilly

Yesterday I sat in the auditorium at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts for my first MA lecture.

I was a hideously girlie swot. I did all my pre reading, all my tasks and was sat there raising my hand like Charlotte during her Judaism conversion classes in Sex and the City. After the Fashion and Film element of the symposium we had a Photography session. We were treated to a veritable feast of film images and fashion photgraphs. Shoots that either influenced fashion photography, or fashion photography that influenced films. Lighting techniques, the moving images that were constructed as photography and the use of colour to enhance the image.

My favourite images were stills and 8mm films from the late French photographer Guy Bourdin who worked predominately for French Vogue.

  4. Something about those Guy Bourdin images make me think of Cindy Sherman. Have you seen her photos of Cindy's series of "women in film." I think you would like it.

I love how excited and passionate you are about learning.I love that feeling of a hunger for knowledge---it is better than anything can be bought.

Oh, and I have tagged you for an easy peasy lemon squeezy meme. Come on over and see it.

  5. Now that sounds like a good lecture. Hideous girlie swot, from the Young Ones, right? I still say that and about a thousand other quotes myself.
By the way, I loved your comment over at Sister Wolf's - really well said.

  14. If I'm ever feeling in need of a chuckle I pull out my Guy coffee table book. When I started studying photography the National Gallery of Victoria were holding an exhibition of his work with Charles Jourdan and French Vogue - well I was sold and spent the next two years using his work as primary inspiration.

Colour, composition, humor and shoes everything a timeless image should have.
