Make Do Motivation

I figured you needed sums to motivate you to not fritter for a few months.

12 weeks of Grazia = £23.40
Daily cappuccino over twelve weeks = £117
No weekly little clothes or other purchases at say £20 a week = £240

A no spend on these items would give you £380.40 to buy one quality item with.... food for thought.
What would you spend £380.40 on?

UPDATE - the example of cost saving measures above are just that, examples. The No Fritter Challenge is simply as thus: all you have to do is not buy a single item of clothing from now until March 31st. Save what you might have spent or were tempted to spend and then go an buy yourself something truly fabulous.

  1. I save a lot of money by not drinking coffee, it seems!

  2. I don't drink coffee either, or buy Grazia - and, though I'd love to visit Topshop every week, I simply don't have the time... though I'm curious to know how much time this £380.40 will buy me?

  3. No Elles or Vogues for a year, that would save me £90.00. Now I've got the taste back for a tipple, I'm wondering if its going to go in that direction, LOL!!

  4. OK, so I usually try to limit myself to one coffee a week (but this varies depending on how tired I am) so I reckon that's about £15- £16 to spend. So, I'd probably by a t-shirt. If I had £380.40 I might buy some new shoes/boots - not sure which, I'll have to do some research and get back to you on that one!

  5. As I didnt't end up getting the Reiss pumps, if I had that much cash in my hand, I would get a Chanel pair.

  6. I too am saving a fortune by not drinking coffee! Not sure I could give up my Grazia though! If I did manage to stop frittering I would buy a beautiful jacket.

  7. Yes you are sooo right - though I spend a fortune keeping up with print media..... Happy New Year !

  8. That would definitely be enough for a nice handbag, or a down payment on a Chanel jacket that I'm currently coveting! I stopped picking up Starbucks last summer, and it's amazing how much more I have in the bank at the end of every month now... I guess $5 coffee on a daily basis (sometimes twice) was a bad habit!

  9. Oh Kate, I didn't realize that the ban included mags and coffee. Eek. I don't think I can do that. I mean, I need the coffee and the mag to get me through the dark days of Jan.

Mindless clothing purchases, no problem (I think). I mean, in order to have mental freedom, I buy breakfast and lunch (Mon thru Fri). That's a hideous expenditure, and yet I value the time it gives me to think of other things.

    Don't think less of me!

  11. I have a group of friends and we are each subscribed to different magazines which we rotate amongst us. THAT is a money savor. Also, ages ago when we remodeled our kitchen, we splurged on a built-in espresso machine. LOVE that!! I make better cappuccinos on it than I find anywhere else. But I do spend money on clothes. Either for myself or the kids, I find myself making needless purchases every month.

  12. I like He-weasel's coffee better than any coffee shops. I don't buy magazines. This ban is going to be easy-peasy!

  13. I don't buy Grazia or coffee but my husband and I spend around £25 a week on wine. Me stopping drinking would save £12.50 a week for 12 weeks that would be.....£150. I think!
Oh My God I am drinking a Mulberry handbag a year!

  14. K-Line - oh gosh I'm not banning anything! I just gave the magazines and coffee costs as an example. The only thing not to buy is clothes/shoes/accessories the frittering things.

  18. Crap.... I'm ashamed that I can't participate in your task.... but I will TRY and cut out my Grazia habit...if I can do it with Heat, then Grazia shouldn't be that difficult...or is it?

  19. I spend a small fortune on magazines and coffee, but giving up cheap clothes is easier.

  20. I can easily give up magazines, as I prefer reading stuff online a lot of the times anyway, but coffee is harder...

    Great idea by the way!!

  21. I am actually considering downsizing my magazines, I just got Harpers and literally 'read' it in 20mins there was nothing in it! Your right though that you just dont see little things like this all add up x
