For tomorrow
Coco Avant Chanel (2009 dir. Anne Fontaine) is in the cinema.

The film is based on this book by Edmonde Charles Roux and deals with the early years i.e. pre Second World War and her dubious involvement with a German officer.

The book is a fabulous read and I have high hopes of Fontaine's film.
Hi there-yes, it looks just fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to see it until next Wednesday (buy one get one free!) I can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see this!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this too. xx
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read the book, I will be seeing the film though, looks exciting.
ReplyDeleteIt looks marvelous - hope the film lives up to the previews!
ReplyDeleteI've seen it in France a while back and found Tautou quite disapointing in this role. She's doesn't quite have what it takes to bring Coco back to life, IMHO.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, Charles-Roux's book is outstanding - she's such an amazing woman and thereby talented author.
I'm a little bit ridiculously excited about this film! Audrey is one of my all time favourite actresses, I hope the film does her (and Coco) justice

So what did you think?????

Hammie - loved it! It is an adaptation and only in part but as a film it is moody, intense and well shot with great subject matter. It is a bit erratic in parts but I think that is the attempt to capture Chanel's many versions of how, what and why. Some of the visual referencing is a bit obvious/twee but then I've done that in my short film so I draw some comfort from it!
