High Street Pick of the Week

This is a bit on the expensive side for Warehouse at £120. It does worry me this steady creeping up of prices on the high street. The cheaper priced dresses are becoming cheaper in every sense and I have to say the cut and cloth on this one is good but I'm hesitating over the price - am I a cheap skate or forgetting the price of oil these days?

It is on a par with a Ted Baker or All Saints dress in terms of price and I do think the design team at Warehouse are making great improvements to the retail offering.

  1. I was looking at warehouse dresses just yesterday - once I'm allowed to go shopping again (not til the new year!) the first thing I want to buy is a smart day dress. I really like the Warehouse ones but the dealbreaker is that they are ALL dry clean only.

  2. Nice look -- it would all depend on the quality for me.

  3. I like the look of it, but frankly, I would never EVER pay £120 for something at Warehouse or any other high street shop. It's just not right to me. I sort of think that high street shops are losing it a bit when it comes to pricing their garments. You are right that the cheaper the price the poorer the quality. Sad, really.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend!

  4. I think the only way they could justify that pricetag is if the dress was made of oil!

And if it's polyester/nylon, then it is, so I've made a moot point.

  5. Its a great dress, I agree that Warehouse have some lovely pieces out this autumn!

  6. It is a beautiful dress! Pictures can be deceiving though... if the fit and quality was good enough to justify the price, I would get it in a heartbeat!

  7. It's lovely, and I can see why you would love to have it. I baulk at paying £50 for a new dress (not that I tend to buy them anyway) so £120 sounds almost offensively expensive for High Street...IMVHO. I'd rather take that £120 and buy a vintage dress, or a second hand Vivienne Westwood.

  8. That is an outrageous price for highstreet!!! As Miss peelpants say above you can get Vivienne Westwood for that, I only paid £159 for one of my Viv's and that was brand new from the boutique! I refuse to pay over the odds for highstreet as I find they only last a few wears (I cant say for warehouse as I never shop there). I would much rather wait for designer sales or go on ebay. So fed up of of highstreet prices! It does look very nice tho x

  9. Yes - it is a difficult point and I agree with you all. I would rather pay the same for a second hand original Viv or the like. It is a very nice dress, I tried it one a client on Friday and I loved it. She did too! But we both agreed it was over priced for Warehouse. I have to say in quality and cloth and cleaning process it was certainly the same as a the next retailer up - as mentioned before the top end of high street Ted Baker, All Saints even Reiss or Karen Millen. It was better quality than Topshop Boutique/Unique or Christopher Kane pieces.

  10. Well, I really like it - it's like a vaguely affordable Vivienne Westwood piece. But I can't really be spending that on an every day dress.

  11. I don't think you are a cheap skate. I think you are a wise shopper.

  13. Glad you've noticed that prices are creeping up on 'quality' high street. Thought it was just me. xx

  14. I have been thinking about the hike in High Sreet prices for some time as I buy in Topshop, River Island, Warehouse etc for my teenage girls. I have noticed even a lot of New Look dresses are priced up at £50, since when did New Look become Topshop? Everything my kids ever get from New Look, there is a problem with, hems coming down, buttons falling off etc, I avoid the place like the plague!

  15. I agree the high street is getting much more expensive in general. This dress is really lovely though, actually rather like a Vivienne Westwood! £120 is an arm and a leg for warehouse although I've always found their quality fantastic.

  16. Plus, it is the most expensive they have, most are 40-60 pounds

  17. If the quality is as good as the style, I'd consider splurging. It's a great dress.
